Student View
Here is a students view on their experience of the course.
Hi, my name is Aaron Stead and i am currently studying GCSE PE. The reason I took GCSE PE as one of my options is becauseIi have a motivation for taking part in physical activity. The teachers are very good at helping people organise everyone's different sports as there are so many. If you take part in an out of school sport, then either one of the pe teachers will come and assess you in your sport, or you can make a video or production to show the pe teachers so they can assess you. There are two pieces of coursework that need to be completed over the two years. These are a PEP (personal exercise programme) which is basically where you choose a sport and write a training programme for 6 weeks for an athelte to improve in that particular sport. Also there is an AOP (anaylsis of performance) where you watch a clip from your best sport and then you need to say what is good and bad about their performance, the way they can improve the bad parts about their performance and you also need to relate the clip to the perfect model of the sport. There are many different and interesting topics that you learn about. These come from different ways of training, different fuctions of the body, performance enhancing drugs, the skeletal, muscular, respiratory and cardiovascular system.
Practical
For the practical side of the course it is 60% of your overall grade. There are so many different sports you can choose from, and these include out of school sports. You are given a score of 10 for each sport you do and your top 4 scores count. This doesn't mean you can't do more than 4 sports. I find practical the easier side, although, if you get a serious injury, there is not a problem. As all you have to do is get a doctors note (from personal experience) and this should help you not lose any of your practical side.
Overall, i feel GCSE PE is one of the best options and i will definitely stay on to do the A-Level course
