AS/A Level Course(s) Overview

A-Level Physical Education is an option to those pupils who have a particular interest or expertise in sport. Students must be fully prepared for a course which is much more intense than the GCSE PE course.

Content Overview

The course is divided up into three sections in Year 12 and in Year 13. These consist of:

AS - Anatomy and Physiology/Acquiring Skills/Socio Cultural factors

A2 - Exercise Physiology/History of Sport/Comparative Studies

Students are also expected to demonstrate their practical/officiating and or leadership skills in two sports at AS and one sport at A2.

Course Assessment - Theory Exam 70%, Practical Assessment 30%

Course Requirements - A high grade in their GCSE PE course (mainly in the theoretical paper) and at least ‘B’ grades in both Science and English.

Career Pathways - University to study Sports Science, PE Teaching, Sports Rehabilitation, Sports Nutrition, Sports Psychology, Physiotherapy, Personal Trainer.
